So today,I took the metro bus back from the Velachery gate of IIT(where I was doing some studious(!) reading in the library) to home at VBC.Like Amma said, maybe I should have asked to get down near Reliance instead of getting down at the last stop(Vijaynagar bus station),but a short walk never killed anyone,right?Re.5 ticket on the bus?!The delights of Chennai bus travel never cease to amaze.O.K.I was using something much closer to nothing(Re.2 or so on buses),but times change, right?

Chennai metro bus travel
I feel extremely proud about this post, because I had a metro travel on the Chennai buses after so many years:please don't ask me the number, because that is something I struggle with a little bit:memory of events happening in probably different situations than I was used to:I used to frequently use the Metro vehicles in the DC area in US in the past.
I was struck by how the Chennai metro buses(Chennai has acquired deserved worldwide fame for its metro buses),and I was impressed with how things were as efficient as ever, and things had been upgraded[looking at metro stations, especially train stations,I was proud of how much they reminded me of what I was used to using and seeing in US,in the DC area.
I hope Chennai keeps upgrading, because I think its metro is in safe hands.

Repetition
I guess reading my last few posts, the first thing that leaps to mind is that I am suffering from a case of traumatic repetition[that doesn't sound legally right, but "traumatic" has been used so often in the past with my incident, that I considered it a fitting prefix to a word which describes kind of what has come to define many of my posts;hopefully not my research:repetition.I am afraid people will get so bored of the repetitions that they'll get bored of me at some point].I used to frequent vocal classes in the past,so repetition is not new in that sense, and in fact, repetition will help a great deal in music, but not my regular work, especially if I start to repeat myself too often.

History
Some history:traverse my memory lane with me
Why such an obssession with memory?
I even have a blog,co-authored by my mother(who is into things as spiritually demanding as Thiruppugazh),called Memory Lane.
Reason is,I experienced a case of hydroplaning of my car in the US;nothing major lost as a result, but I guess memory is something that can be in the balance:İ had some minor head bumps in my car(all saved by airbags).Memory means so much to me;is it any shock? My research (research in any subject, for that matter)is built on it,any hint of memory loss can be disastrous in research in any field, because there will be any number of instances of highly-ranked professors, students and the like submitting a variety of queries and it wouldn't look good if the researcher(me)stands there looking lost;also,I had interest in lots of things in the past that required pellucid memory, different forms of music,Carnatic in particular,to be specific.Thankfully,I didn't get into playacting,so I stayed true to my self.
And suppose something had gone wrong during that incident,'hydro planing memory loss'(is that a legal phrase?)could have been so much worse!I have to thank God sincerely for how things turned out.

Kularamo
Kularamo:meaning
Two letters at a time, the word starts the name of a close family member,i.e.,a pneumonic :My name is Kumar,my father's Ravichandran,my mother's,Lalitha, and my elder brother's:Mohan;no specific order was used to gather the short names.

Email to Dara & Hema
I composed a note on my iPhone last month that I sent later to my mother by email because she has plans of starting a blog and was asking for material.I was addressing my email from Gmail to two friends of my mother's:Dara & Hema. That is why the email ended with my call-out to everyone at Levindale, which was a geriatric center I was at for special care. Now why was I at a geriatric center, when I was so young? Please read on.The material in the iPhone note(text) is this(Hydroplaning of a car may mean very little to the normal person at any time, but it is something I cannot disassociate from my life. The thing I am curious about is:the brain needn't have been involved with it,but I guess this tired self couldn't help it;God be praised my car had the proper airbags in the proper places when it happened(and probably that saved me,so İ didn't become a footnote in human history as a result of that incident.)I was telling her recently that the 2 of us should come to Levindale when we return to the U.S(I'll have to revise some of my earlier notes from my research to make sure I am properly prepared for what's called a pre-defense exam that will hopefully take place when I return).
Lots of love to everyone at Levindale.

The vagaries of memory:how potentially disastrous things could have been in the past!
The vagaries of memory
Yes,İ've given this blog the title 'Memory Lane'for a specific reason. There was the fleeting chance my memory could have been impacted if something had gone cataclysmically wrong in my car in U.S(a case of hydroplaning). Also, because this is a joint blog and my mother is used to reciting slokams, many of which involve a tremendous show of memory(like the Saundaryalahari).
My mother's response:

My mother's response:
Dear Kumar,
The title is very good. You are able to write well.Hope you recall what I told in the morning -- not to get upset if I make some comments. When I requested you to keep your left hand down you did not welcome the remark.Well at some point of time the medicine Baklofin must stop.U.S Srinivasan will stop only when your left hand is kept totally down.So as a concerned mother I told.
Next when you read the book pl note down in a nutshell what you read. This is good for recalling.Avoid getting distracted.Asirvadams to you.Amma

My response:
Amma,
Baclofen has to stop sometime,I agree, but I am surprised it is connected with my left side being totally down. Can any sane person look at me and say the left limbs are not normally placed assuming that person knew I was right-handed(I played badminton and tennis with my right hand and I was really competitive;still am when I play badminton with Appa;that's probably not something a doctor will care about even if told by the mother)?
Secondly,Prouty's book is a classic.Any summarization at this stage will be kind of reversing my studies;do you think most of my studies did not touch Prouty at all?Of course;he was regarded as the aerodynamics guru even then by one and all.So I am very sorry for finding this crude analogy, but would you try to summarize Saundaryalahari (God forgive such a thought) which you say you've been saying since very young?
